Revlon Colorstay Aqua Mineral Makeup Review

Now that it's summer and my skin has decided it's time to be oily, I have been flirting with the idea of mineral makeup. Liquid foundation promises the most coverage but mineral foundation is light and airy and great for oily skin. Hearing good things from a couple of people about Revlon Colorstay products and this foundation in particular, I was not prepared for the god awful review I am about to write..

I know as a beauty blogger I should voice my opinion but still leave it open for interpretation, you may LOVE this product or you may hate it like I did. But it's because of this hate that I can't help but urge you NOT to buy a product this time.

First of all, this foundation is $20 after taxes at Wal-Mart. For that price you could get a decent mineral foundation (say Pur Minerals or BareMinerals) from Sephora or a Shopper's Beauty Boutique and have it shade matched to your skin. There are no testers with drugstore mineral foundations so it's a guessing game. I chose shade Light/Medium. Maybe choosing a shade darker would have given better results, but I'm not willing to try.

In the sifter this mineral foundation looks well, like mineral foundation should right? But on skin it is pure glitter and shimmer. Very alarming at first, I screeched like a velociraptor and said "OMG" far too many times, it was quite the scene. The "Aqua" component gives a cooling, wet feel with each application which I like but I'm not sure the point of that. Coverage is slim to none. I did not notice any difference on my skin at all, none whatsoever. And while it doesn't claim to be full coverage, any sort of coverage would have been a miracle. No buildability (is that a word?) caps off Revlon Colorstay Aqua as the worst excuse for a mineral foundation I have tried in my entire life. I closed the cap, washed my face and applied my go-to liquid foundation just to feel better about the world again.

Terrible, I thought you were better than this Revlon!

I don't mind the brush included with Colorstay Aqua Mineral makeup, however it is much better suited to liquid foundation application on the go. Mineral foundation is best applied with a Kabuki style brush not this stiff flat brush, but I like the packaging concept regardless.

I returned this product to Wal-Mart the night I bought it and haven't bought a replacement mineral makeup since. The search for the perfect summer foundation continues..

This product was purchased by G&G for review! xx
